A growing number of consumers adopt a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, driven by health-, animal- and environment-related concerns. Along with the global rise of the vegan movement, the demand for meat-free food is exponentially increasing. How to ensure that a vegan sausage has been entirely processed without meat and animal-derived products?
Vegan Control™ is a simple qPCR-based system for the quick detection of animal traces in food, which can be used in combination with our ExtractNow™ Vegan Control in order to isolate DNA from potentially non-vegan food products.
The kit enables detection of down to 0.1 % of genomic meat target DNA in a vegan food type background, in about 150 minutes.
Isolated total DNA from potentially contaminated vegan food serves as starting material. DNA can be extracted from sample material using DNA extraction kits e.g. ExtractNow™ Vegan Control (Cat. No. 607-1050) or user-based method.
Type of PCR
Real-time PCR. TaqMan® assay based on FAM™ and HEX™ labeled probes.
Applicable in research and industry for detection of meat/animal based contaminations of vegan foods. For research use only! Do not use for clinical diagnostic or for testing of patient samples.
